Truth Social Offers Update on Efforts to Enter Google Play Store

Truth Social, the social media service owned by Trump Media & Technology Group (TMTG), in a press release indicated it has so far been unable to get its app listed on Google Play Store. Listing the app on Google Play Store would enable Android users to access the Truth Social site, which up to now is only accessible via Apple devices.

TMTG, meanwhile, seeks to go public through a merger with Digital World Acquisition, which next week will conduct a meeting for shareholders to vote on whether to extend the merger deadline a full year to September 2023. Both the SPAC and Donald Trump’s media company are under investigation by federal securities regulators.

Trump Media is reportedly facing severe financial problems and has allegedly not paid a key vendor since March, a claim Trump denies.

As for the press release regarding Google Play Store, TMTG mostly takes a swipe at competitors without actually addressing where it stands in the process of gaining approval for its app on the Google site.

According to a new report from Axios, Trump’s conservative social network still has not been approved by Google for its Google Play store due to content moderation concerns from the tech giant. Truth Social is reportedly crawling with threats and calls for politically-motivated violence, which are a key part of Google’s concerns, despite Truth Social billing itself as “family friendly.” Read more.
